Academic Integrity & Authentic Participation Policy

Ensuring that all academic activities are completed personally, honestly, and authentically by every registered student.

Purpose

Beta College is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, ethical conduct, and compliance with the Ministry of Colleges and Universities and OSAP requirements.

This policy ensures that all academic activities are completed personally, honestly, and authentically by the registered student.

Scope

This policy applies to all students enrolled in online, hybrid, and in-person programs, and covers all academic activities including attendance, participation, assessments, and examinations.

Definition of Academic Misconduct

Academic misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Registering in a program without genuine intent to attend or complete studies.
  • Allowing another individual to log in, attend classes, or complete academic work on the student’s behalf.
  • Paying or receiving payment for impersonation or proxy attendance.
  • Misrepresentation of attendance or academic engagement.
  • Misuse or attempted misuse of OSAP or other financial aid.
  • Providing false or misleading information related to enrollment or participation.

Attendance & Identity Verification

Students are required to personally attend and participate in all scheduled academic activities. Verification methods include:

  • Learning management system records and IP verification.
  • Proctoring tools and webcam verification.
  • Direct instructor observations to confirm authenticity.

OSAP & Financial Aid Compliance

  • Students receiving OSAP must meet participation requirements as defined by the Ministry.
  • Confirmed non-attendance, impersonation, or fraud will be reported to OSAP.
  • Violations may result in funding reassessment.

Consequences of Violation

  • Academic warnings and assessment penalties.
  • Course or program failure.
  • Suspension or expulsion from the college.
  • OSAP notification and permanent academic record notation.

Reporting & Investigation

  • The College will investigate reported violations confidentially and fairly.
  • Students will be provided an opportunity to respond before final decisions are made.
  • Policy is reviewed annually to ensure alignment with regulatory standards.
