Student Discipline Policy

Beta College of Business and Technology (“the College”) is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, inclusive, and academically focused learning environment.

This Student Discipline Policy establishes standards of student conduct and outlines the procedures the College follows when addressing misconduct.

This policy is developed in accordance with the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005 and applicable regulations and directives issued by the Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security (MCURES).

This policy applies to:

  • All domestic and international students
  • All campuses (Mississauga and Brampton)
  • Online, hybrid, and in-person delivery modes
  • The BETA Hive ERP/LMS platform
  • College-sponsored activities (on or off campus)

All official College communication channels

Students are expected to:

  • Act professionally and respectfully at all times
  • Comply with all academic, attendance, and administrative policies
  • Maintain academic integrity
  • Respect faculty, staff, peers, and visitors
  • Use College technology systems responsibly
  • Follow all applicable Canadian laws and regulatory requirements

Academic misconduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Plagiarism
  • Cheating during examinations
  • Unauthorized collaboration
  • Fabrication or falsification of assignments
  • Impersonation during assessments
  • Unauthorized sharing of examination content
  • Circumvention of Face ID or identity verification systems
 

Penalties may include grade reduction, assignment failure, course failure, suspension, or expulsion.

Behavioural misconduct includes:

  • Harassment, discrimination, or bullying
  • Threatening, abusive, or disruptive behaviour
  • Unauthorized recording of classes
  • Damage to College property
  • Inappropriate conduct during online or in-person sessions

Administrative violations include:

  • Providing false or misleading information to the College
  • Failure to comply with attendance requirements
  • Account sharing or unauthorized system access
  • Tampering with academic or attendance records
  • Non-compliance with OSAP or immigration-related reporting obligations

The College applies discipline proportionate to the severity of the misconduct.

Disciplinary measures may include:

  1. Verbal Warning
  2. Written Warning
  3. Academic Penalty
  4. Suspension (temporary removal from class or system access)
  5. Expulsion

Serious misconduct may result in immediate suspension or expulsion without prior warning.

When a complaint or allegation is received:

  1. The matter is reviewed by the Program Coordinator and/or Academic Director.
  2. The student is notified in writing.
  3. The student is provided an opportunity to respond.
  4. Evidence is reviewed.
  5. A written decision is issued.
 

The College may temporarily restrict access to facilities or systems during an investigation where necessary.

A student may be expelled for:

  • Serious academic dishonesty
  • Fraud or misrepresentation
  • Violence or threats of violence
  • Harassment or discrimination
  • Repeated violations following prior warnings

Where expulsion occurs:

  • A written decision will be issued.
  • Financial implications will follow the College’s Fee Refund Policy.
  • Reporting to regulatory bodies may occur where legally required.

A student may submit a written appeal within 5 business days of receiving a disciplinary decision.

The appeal must:

  • Clearly state the grounds for appeal
  • Include supporting documentation
 

Appeals are reviewed by senior administration not previously involved in the matter. The decision on appeal is final.

Students retain rights to submit complaints under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005, including complaints to the Superintendent of Career Colleges where applicable.

All disciplinary matters are handled confidentially in accordance with the College’s Privacy Policy and applicable legislation.

Information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis or as required by law.

This policy is reviewed periodically to ensure compliance with the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005 and MCURES requirements.
